Anja Masling born in Germany, lives and works in Amsterdam, The Netherlands.
Masling works with video and sound and graduated from the Gerrit Rietveld Academy in Audiovisual Arts and attained a Master of Fine Arts at the Sandberg Institute in Amsterdam. Besides working in her interdisciplinary artistic practice involving writing, video, installations, experimental short films, artistic documentaries and soundscapes, Anja works as a teacher at different art academies and at the Amsterdam based artspace NEVERNEVERLAND, supporting young artists in exhibitions and curatorial practises. Anja conducted worldwide video-workshops for UNICEF and Save The Children and has been involved in the organisation of screenings, video and filmfestivals such as The One Minutes, IDFA, Movies That Matter, Cinekid.
Masling is working in her interdisciplinary artistic practice involving writing, video installations, experimental short films, artistic documentaries and soundscapes, challenging the distinctions between reality and artifice, while delving into themes of memory, culture, family and identit. Her work has been screened at The Nederlandse Filmfestival, IFFR, Oberhausen Filmfestival a.o. and she has participated in (inter)-national exhibitions..
Video Workshops
Anja Masling worked for more than 10 years as a workshop teacher for The One Minutes Jr. project in collaboration with UNICEF and as a workshop teacher at NEVERNEVER Jr. She has been working with young people at refugee centers and youth organisations in The Netherlands, Germany, Lybia, Lebanon, Jordan, Bangaldesh, Mexico , Sri Lanka, Turkey, Lapland and Morocco, coaching to tell personal story by using video.
During the workshops the young participants are learning how to write a script, storyboard, filming techniques and editing, but most important how to express emotions and thoughts in a creative way.
